GEORGE TOWN, June 1 – The Ministry of Communications and Multimedia expects the distribution of free tablet devices to the B40 group of students to be implemented only this July. The delay in the distribution period compared to the original schedule in June was due to the issue of reopening the supplier tender.
After 2 years of the pandemic, many families have experienced financial problems, especially B40 families and students. In recent times, the problem of rising prices of goods has also added to the burden of the people. In the digital age, laptops and tablet devices are basic tools to students in terms of teaching and learning.
Help is desperately needed to bridge the digital divide among B40 students who need the help of a laptop or tablet device. MUDA Pulau Pinang hopes that the relevant parties can provide a detailed explanation on the problems that have occurred in the supplier tender process that has caused delays in the distribution of aid.
In addition, immediate action should be taken so that the process and distribution of B40 tablet devices can be implemented as soon as possible and such problems will not recur. Students are an important asset and human capital in shaping the future of the country. Assistance should be channeled to all students with urgent needs without bureaucracy and delays.
