GEORGE TOWN, June 1 3 – Penang State Youth and Sports EXCO, YB Soon Lip Chee welcomed non-governmental organizations to work with the government to hold sports programs that can benefit the youth in the state. He called while attending the Closing Ceremony and Prize Giving Ceremony of the First Penang Youth Golf Competition 2022 (Inaungural Penang Junior Development Golf Competition 2022) held at Penang Golf Club, Bukit Jambul on Thursday (9 June 2022).
The program is organized by the Penang State MMK Youth and Sports Committee and the Penang State Sports Council in collaboration with the Penang State Teochew Merchants Association in conjunction with the Penang Community Olympic Carnival 2022 which took place from 15 May to 23 June 2022. YB Soon said, such a golf tournament is an event organized for the first time in the state and non-governmental organizations are encouraged to submit applications to organize the tournament, especially events that target youths.
Athletes’ performance does not only depend on the athletes themselves, but also in relation to the entire community and the athlete’s environment. Therefore, we must encourage the involvement of youths in sports from an early age to produce quality athletes who will become new champions in the future. The involvement of youths can be enhanced through activities or programs, such as the Penang State Government in collaboration with the Penang State Sports Council which has tried to plan and implement “Sports For All” sports clinics to create a sports introduction platform for young people at the tuber roots, ”said YB Soon.
He also stated that the State Government will always provide support and cooperation to the Penang State Teochew Merchants Association or associations that wish to organize this golf tournament on an anniversary. Chairman of the Organizing Committee and Executive Advisor of the Penang Teochew Merchants Association, Dato ‘Lim Aun Ghee in his speech informed that the tournament has attracted 100 participants who are not only from Penang, but also from Kedah, Perak and the Federal Territory.
