GEORGE TOWN, June 25 – Parti Gerakan Rakyat Malaysia Deputy President Oh Tong Keong urged the federal government to review the decision made by the government to abolish the pure cooking oil subsidy, the price control ceiling of chicken and chicken eggs which will be implemented next month. He said the government’s decision would have a huge impact on consumers, further burden the people and exacerbate the effects of inflation.
Minister of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Dato Sri Alexander yesterday announced that the ceiling control price of chicken, chicken eggs and pure cooking oil subsidy for 2kg, 3kg and 5kg bottle packs will not be continued from July 1. Oh Tong Keong said, this decision has a wide impact on the people, because the food mentioned earlier is the basic food of all Malaysians regardless of race, it is the food we all need daily.
With that, he asked the federal government to explain to the people the main reasons why the government made such a decision. The people do not understand, why the decision was taken by the authorities in a hurry. The abolition of subsidies will result in increased prices of goods and also burden the lives of the people.
