PUTRAJAYA, June 29 – The Cabinet Meeting today decided not to float the Price of Chicken but instead continue with the subsidy and set the standard retail ceiling price of chicken at RM 9.40 Per Kilogram, for Peninsular Malaysia. Minister Datuk Seri Ronald Kiandee also announced the ceiling price of chicken eggs with Grade A Egg at RM 0.45 Sen each, Grade B Egg at RM 0.43 Sen each and Grade C Egg at RM 0.41 sen each in Peninsular Malaysia. The ceiling price for Standard Chicken and Chicken Egg effective from 1st July 2022.
This decision has also taken into account and coordinated with the Malaysian Family Assistance (BKM) announced by the YAB Prime Minister, Dato ‘Sri Ismail Sabri Yaakob recently, through cash assistance initiatives including additional cash assistance amounting to RM500 to the B40 Group and part of the M40 Group. A total of 8.6 million BKM recipients have been approved with households to receive up to RM2600 this year. This assistance is the highest ever given by any government.
With the implementation of this subsidy, the Government has allocated a total of RM369.5 million, bringing the total subsidy to RM1.1 billion since 5 February 2022. The issue of rising prices of goods does not occur only in Malaysia, instead it is a global phenomenon due to supply chain gangs due to geopolitical conflicts and climate change. However, the Government is doing its best to establish price control mechanisms to ensure that Malaysian families are not burdened with the challenge of the cost of living.
