GEORGE TOWN, July 2 – There is no denying that the mat rempit case is a long -standing problem in Penang. In recent times, this problem has become more chronic and many rempit mat videos have spread widely in cyberspace and this issue is very worrying. Penang is a major tourist destination famous for its food, culture and heritage.
The increasing number of rempit mat cases will not only endanger the safety of residents and tourists, but will also tarnish the image of the state of Penang, thus affecting the desire of tourists to visit Penang. The state government has spent a lot of money to improve the infrastructure and walls of Padang Kota Lama to attract tourists, but sadly, the location of Lebuh Light and Jalan Padang Kota Lama has become a focal point for rempit.
Apart from that, Jalan Bukit Gambir, Bayan Lepas (Seagate) and Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu Highway are also popular areas for mat rempit. MUDA Pulau Pinang recommends that the authorities conduct more patrols at these locations and take stern action against rempit mats and parties involved in illegal motorcycle modifications. Citizens are also encouraged to report rempit mat cases to the authorities. Penang is our beloved state, not because of a drop of indigo, spoiled milk.
