BAYAN LEPAS, July 4 – Penang Halal International (PHI) as the agency under the Penang State Government focusing on the promotion of Halal industry with cooperation of Penang State Exco Office for Trade, Industrial & Entrepreneur Development organised the 11th Penang International Halal Expo & Conference (PIHEC) on 1st to 3rd July 2022 located at Setia SPICE Convention Centre, Penang. The theme for this 11th year of PIHEC will be “Building Resillience and Sustainability Towards Stronger Growth”.
Prof. Emeritus Annie Koh of The Lee Kong Chian School of Business at the Singapore Management University (SMU) has been invited as the Guest Speaker to speak on the theme. For this year of the organised event, the expo and conference held in hybridly through physical and virtual conferences, business matching and halal industry exhibition. For the past 2 years since the event cannot be organised due to COVID-19 pandemic, PIHEC was came to promote the Halal industry in Penang and boosted the economic sector.
This expo and conference also were supported by federal and state government agencies and well-known corporate companies. This event was attended from more than 15 countries which involved South East Asia, Middle East and North Africa, Europe, East Asia, South Asia, Europe and Asia Pasific and the number of visitors to be expected around 15,000 vistors, The highlight of the event also includes the memorandum of understanding between PHI with Foodpanda, Grab, and Instituto Halal of Spain and the conferences that discussed on topics such as adoption of sustainable technology in Halal, opportunities in the mega FTAs, logistic challenges due to high inflation, global food security, and many more.
YAB Tuan Chow Kon Yeow, the Chief Minister of Penang in his launching speech said, “I am very proud with the initiative that PHI have initiated in promoting Halal industry in Penang and also moving forward the agenda of Penang 2030” YB Dato’ Haji Abdul Halim Hussain as the Penang State Exco for Trade, Industry & Entrepreneur Development and the Chairman of Penang Halal International in his welcoming speech also said “As the State Exco that responsible for promoting the Halal Industry.
Supported the initiative to boost the entrepreneurship agenda in Penang especially in empowering the Halal Industry and this will be an exposure to the SME’s company to promote their products and services. En Fazil Irwan Som, Chief Executive Officer of PHI in his welcoming speech said, “PHI appreciated the support that were given from the Penang State Government and also from the federal and state government agencies, also with the support from the corporate sectors in organising this event.
Mr Sayantan Das, Managing Director of Foodpanda Malaysia in his statement after the MOU was signed said We are honoured to work together to support the efforts of PHI and the Penang State Government to enhance the capabilities and marketability of SME’s and improve the local economy in the endemic phase.
