GEORGE TOWN, July 22 – The Penang Rowing Association (PRA), in collaboration with Concept2 Malaysia and Aviron Racing, will for the first time host the Penang Rowing Indoor Championships at 1st Avenue, on 6 August 2022. Penang Youth and Sports EXCO, YB Soon Lip Chee said the rowing competition will be conducted using a Concept2 rowing machine which will be connected to a computer apprentice. In fact, the organization of this rowing tournament is in line with the Sports For All initiative as well as the vision and mission for the development of indoor rowing discipline in rowing.
He also added that the organization of this program at the national level by PRA can inspire and attract new talents to participate in this sport. The Director of the Penang State Sports Council, Tuan Harry Chai Heng Hua is confident that the sport of indoor rowing can be developed and known by more people in the state of Penang through the organization of this national level tournament.
President of PRA, En. Sim Ghee Beng said, this annual tournament has received approval from the Sports Commissioner (PJS) and the program has received the participation of 100 rowers from 7 states. Participants are comprised of citizens aged 10 to 70 years. This tournament is the largest rowing machine tournament in Malaysia which involves 86 events such as 2000m, 1000, 500m, in addition to the 4x500m team relay event.
