KUALA LUMPUR, July 29 – Today, history was made when the amendment to the Constitution (Amendment) Bill (No.3) 2022 regarding the provision of the Prohibition of Dewan Rakyat Members Changing Parties, was approved in the Dewan Rakyat with the support of a majority of more than two-thirds said Prime Minister YAB Dato Sri Ismail Sabri.
The bill was passed through a split vote that saw a total of 209 Members of Parliament present vote to support, none opposed or abstained, while 11 were absent. This Bill was produced after various engagement sessions, views and through a bi-partisan Special Select Committee involving representatives of the main parties in the Dewan Rakyat.
This Bill is important to ensure long-term political stability. This is a clear signal that the Honorable Members practice mature politics based on the spirit of the Malaysian Family by putting the interests and well-being of the people in any planning and implementation.
