GEORGE TOWN, July 29 – At 5.00pm today, the Sungai Muda raw water was recorded at a “safe level” of 224 NTU. The Sungai Dua Water Treatment Plant (WTP), which uses raw water from Sungai Muda to produce more than 80% of the treated water supplied in Penang, continues to operate optimally.
It is likely that water supply operations in Penang will not be affected by murky water from Sungai Muda, arising from the reported floods in Baling, Kedah on yesterday. Nevertheless, PBAPP will continue to carefully monitor the turbidity of raw water from the river over the next few days.
Earlier today, at 9.00am, the turbidity of raw water from Sungai Muda was recorded as 398 NTU at the Lahar Tiang Intake. PBAPP issued an alert and began to initiate water supply emergency response/contingency measures at the Sungai Dua WTP.
