KUALA LUMPUR, August 18 – The Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA) has been instructed to continue the MARA Digital project to open up opportunities for Bumiputera youth to become involved as information technology (IT) entrepreneurs which is the latest and future trend said Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
Several Digital MARAs had been established, namely in Shah Alam, Selangor; Kuantan, Pahang and Ipoh, Perak in addition to several other identified locations including Larkin, Johor; Kuala Terengganu, Terengganu; Kota Bharu, Kelantan; Kuching, Sarawak and Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. However, he said that after Pakatan Harapan took over the government after the 14th General Election in 2018, MARA Digital was closed and new projects were not continued.
“MARA Digital is very close to my heart. I created it to develop Bumiputera entrepreneurs in the field of IT and gadgets, whether selling products, repairing (broken equipment) and others,” he said in a post on his Facebook page last night. Earlier, the Prime Minister conducted a surprise visit at MARA Digital Kuala Lumpur which was also attended by Rural Development Minister Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid.
