PUTRAJAYA, August 18 – Lawyer Hisyam Teh Poh Teik as the lead counsel applied to the Federal Court here on Thursday to withdraw from representing Datuk Seri Najib Razak in the appeal proceedings at the last minute. Hisyam said this in front of the Chief Justice, Tun Tengku Maimun Tuan Mat, who led the five-judge panel during the final appeal proceedings to set aside the conviction,
Sentence and fine against the former Prime Minister for the SRC International Sdn Bhd Company embezzlement case. Also sitting was a panel of four judges, namely the Chief Justice of Sabah and Sarawak, Tan Sri Datuk Abang Iskandar Abang Hashim and three Federal Court Judges, Datuk Nallini Pathmanathan, Datuk Mary Lim Thiam Suan and Datuk Mohamad Zabidin Mohd Diah.
Hisyam said, if he cannot delay the hearing of the proceedings, he hopes to withdraw from handling the appeal and leave Najib. However, Tengku Maimun said, the court had no reason to review the previous decision which rejected the application to postpone the proceedings. Proceedings are temporarily adjourned.
