JOHOR BAHRU, August 20 – Barisan Nasional (BN) is aiming to win 20 of the 26 parliamentary seats contested in Johor in the 15th General Election (GE15). BN Deputy Chairman, Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan said, the target was set to enable Johor to become the main contributor of seats to establish a strong central government after GE15. This time BN wants to win and the target for Johor is quite high. I want Johor to give at least 20 parliamentary seats.
“Therefore, Johor BN has a tough task to win and contribute at least 20 seats out of the 26 contested,” he said. He said this at a press conference of the Johor BN Coordinating Committee Meeting at the Johor UMNO Communication Building on Thursday. Also present were UMNO Vice President, Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin, UMNO Secretary General, Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan and Johor BN Chairman, Datuk Seri Hasni Mohammad who is also Johor UMNO Chairman.
In the meantime, Mohamad who is also UMNO Deputy President and UMNO Elections Director said his visit to Johor on Thursday was aimed at seeing Johor BN’s preparations for GE15 which could be held at any time. Unlike in the Johor State Election (PRN), the entire BN family came down to help, but in GE15, the state and Parliament each have to manage the election separately. So, we need thorough preparations and need to be strong and steady because no friends from all over the country will help,” he said.
In the meantime, Mohamad said Johor was the ninth state to hold a state BN Coordination Meeting as well as a settlement to prepare for GE15. Previously, BN at the same meeting has been held in eight states starting from Perlis, Kedah, Penang, Negeri Sembilan, Federal Territories, Selangor Kelantan and Terengganu. Today in Johor, Sunday in Melaka, Perak (August 22 and 23) and Pahang (August 29 and 30). After that BN will go to Sabah. In Sabah we will hold the same meeting which may take more time because the area is quite big,” he explained.
