GEORGETOWN, August 25 – Penang Youth Development Corporation (PYDC) will organize Into the Lens: Film Making Workshop which is also one of the programs under the PYDC’s Art and Culture category initiative as well as Youth for the Future, launched by the Penang State EXCO of Youth and Sports. This workshop is also supported by Han Chiang University College of Communication. The Malaysian film industry is a relatively small industry that caters to the need of a population of only about 27.5 million.
In the context of globalization, this small local market presents a challenge for the government in promoting the industry as part of creative industry with great economic potential. Penang State EXCO of Youth and Sports, YB Soon Lip Chee said, in line with the Penang2030 Vision, programs like this under the PYDC can help to strengthen and empower the youth and further make them assets in this country’s film industry.
I believe it can spark enthusiasm and also be able to have a positive impact on the youth by honing their knowledge and skills in the field of filmmaking,” he added Dr. Gwee Sai Ling, the General Manager of Penang Youth Development Corporation added on saying, “It has been seen that the film industry is growing rapidly with the birth of several productions producing short films and content on social media. To encourage youth to continue to progress in the film industry commercially,
PYDC took the initiative to organize this film production workshop that focuses on storytelling by speakers who are experienced in short film and documentary production.” This workshop targets youth aged 15 – 35 years old, college or university students majoring in film, mass communication, arts, or any related field and PYDC welcomes the youth who are interested and want to learn more about filmmaking to take part in this workshop.
This workshop will take place in the following details on September 4, 2022 from 9am to 1pm at Auditorium Han Chiang University College of Communication.
