KUALA LUMPUR, September 12 – The missing helicopter pilot has been found alive by the Search and Rescue Teams near Bidor at 8.20am today and rescuers are working on recovery and moving the pilot safely to a hospital in Ipoh to be treated said Transport Minister Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong after received confirmation from CAAM. Yesterday the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) confirms that a helicopter has lost contact with Kuala Lumpur Air Traffic Control Centre (KLATCC) at 12:16PM on Sunday, 11 September 2022.
The helicopter type/model is a Eurocopter EC120B, registration marking N409HH operated by Heli Outpost Sdn Bhd. The helicopter with one pilot in command on board took off from Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport, Subang, Selangor at 11:37 AM for a private flight and was scheduled to land at 12:37 PM at Sultan Azlan Shah Airport, Ipoh, Perak. Radar system in KLATCC had recorded a sharp loss of altitude of the helicopter and the on-duty air traffic control officer tried to make contact with the pilot, however, there was no distress call made.
Review from the radar readings indicated a large loss of altitude in less than 1 minute. Kuala Lumpur Aeronautical Rescue Coordination Centre in KLATCC was immediately activated to determine the location of the helicopter. Helicopters of the Royal Malaysian Air Force and Royal Malaysia Police are currently at the last known location to conduct the search and rescue (SAR) efforts.
