GEORGE TOWN, October 13 – Either Penang State Election will be held simultaneously with the 15th General Election (GE15) or in the near future, Penang Chief Minister, Chow Kon Yeow said that Pakatan Harapan (PH) at the Central level will make an announcement tomorrow. Kon Yeow, who is also the Penang State Democratic Action Party (DAP) Chairman, said so far, his party had succeeded in convincing the party’s Central Supreme Committee (CEC) that the Penang elections be held simultaneously with GE15.
“And, we (Penang DAP) managed to convince the Central DAP (CEC) to bring this issue to the Pakatan Harapan (PH) meeting which took place yesterday (October 12, 2022). As announced after the meeting, we (DAP and Penang PH) will wait for the official announcement tomorrow,” explained the Penang State PH Chairman. Commenting further, Kon Yeow explained that logistical and engineering issues are among the factors behind the proposal for the Central PH to agree to holding simultaneous state and parliamentary elections.
When asked if he was disappointed with the outcome of the PH meeting yesterday, Kon Yeow said there was nothing to be disappointed about as there had been no results yet. There is no decision yet, what is he disappointed about, he said simply. Yesterday, the Communications Director of Pakatan Harapan (PH), Fahmi Fadzil, said that the decision on whether the Penang State Assembly will be dissolved or not will be known as soon as possible within next 24 or 48 hours.
