GEORGE TOWN, October 13 – The Malaysian People’s Movement Party (Gerakan) of Penang will send a list of names of candidates running in the 15th General Election (GE15) for screening by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM). Its chairman, Oh Tong Keong said, the matter of sending the list of names to the two agencies involved will be done next week after receiving the final list of candidates that will be finalized by the Gerakan Central Committee (CC) this Saturday.
“All matters related to GE15 will be discussed and resolved at the Gerakan CC meeting this Saturday, including finalizing the candidates who will contest and the logo we will use later. If any of the candidates do not pass the screening or have past records with the two law enforcement agencies involved, we will continue to ‘kick’ their names off the list,” he said at a press conference at the Bayan Baru Public Market Food Complex, here on Thursday.
Tong Keong who is also the National Deputy President said that so far Gerakan intends to contest in more than 13 State Legislative Assembly (DUN) seats and more than four Parliamentary seats in Penang in GE15. However, he said, the figure may increase after negotiations are made with component partners in the National Alliance (PN) in the near future. When we were with BN, we only contested 13 state assembly seats and four parliamentary seats.
