BAYAN LEPAS, October 29 – AIRASIA boosts regional inbound tourism in Penang with a new direct route from Bali. The Inaugural flight from Bali touched down at Penang International Airport ( PIA ) on 20 October 2022. AirAsia now flies two times a week between Penang and Bali with the flight code of AK1234 and AK1235. The twice-weekly services will add to AirAsia Malaysia’s vast frequency in Penang with 156 flights weekly. This marks Penang as AirAsia’s second biggest hub in Malaysia after Kuala Lumpur with the most international flight frequencies.
Listed as two of the “Top 10 Islands in Southeast Asia” 2022 by Travel & Leisure, you can now fly to Penang – Bali directly at an affordable price thanks to AirAsia. Penang State EXCO for Tourism and Creative Economy (PETACE ) YB Yeoh Soon Hin said: We are thrilled that AirAsia is introducing these new direct Penang – Bali services. This will be the first NEW direct flight route connecting the region after the pandemic. We believe this will be another key international route from Penang and we applaud AirAsia’s continued effort to make Penang a destination of choice for many regional travellers.
CEO of AirAsia Malaysia, Riad Asmat said: “This is the first new international direct route launched post-pandemic from Penang. These new services also mark the first time we have ever flown this route before. As the largest carrier into Penang with a market share of 50% as a group, this bodes well for AirAsia’s regional expansion plans of opening up and developing new markets to/from Penang. Not only will this new direct route to Bali offer a seamless journey, but it will also provide a welcome boost to regional inbound tourism and support the local economies in both countries.”
