ALOR SETAR, November 20 – The desire of Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and his son Datuk Seri Mukhriz to continue to represent the people in the state of their birth ended when they failed to defend their respective seats on the Pejuang ticket in the 15th General Election. In fact, the two children also lost their deposit money after obtaining a very low number of votes. Dr Mahathir who is also the Chairman of Pejuang was the fourth and seventh prime minister while Mukhriz, the President of Pejuang, once led Kedah as Menteri Besar.
After several decades of sowing devotion in the state of Jelapang Padi, Mahathir, 97, who is also the oldest candidate in this GE, witnessed his failure to win the hearts of voters on the legendary island when he only obtained 4,566 votes. He lost to Perikatan Nasional (PN) candidate Datuk Mohd Suhaimi Abdullah who obtained 25,463 votes.
