SHAH ALAM, November 20 – Speaker of the Dewan Rakyat, Tan Sri Azhar Azizan Harun confirmed that he has sent a letter to the leader and secretary general of the party that won the majority of seats in the 15th General Election (GE15) for the formation of a new government. Azhar said that the letter asked the parties involved to submit the names of the parties and Independent Members of Parliament (if any) who agreed to join the coalition.
He said, the coalition needs to have at least 112 seats to establish the Federal government through a statutory declaration by the party leader. They were also asked to name one member of the Dewan Rakyat in their coalition who was entrusted to become the 10th Prime Minister through a statutory declaration letter from each member of the Dewan Rakyat who was a member of the coalition which was stated clearly and clearly.
“The documents mentioned above need to be submitted to the Istana Negara no later than Monday, 21 November 2022 before 2pm,” he said in a statement on Sunday. Azhar explained that the letter was sent to uphold the order of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri-ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah. Al-Sultan Abdullah was previously reported to have ordered that the heads of political parties and party coalitions with a majority of seats submit the names of prime ministerial candidates to Istana Negara before 2pm, Monday.
