KUALA LUMPUR, November 20 – UMNO leaders have started arriving at UMNO Headquarters, Menara Dato’ Onn to participate in two important meetings following the defeat of Barisan Nasional (BN) in the 15th General Election (GE15). Among the visible leaders are the Vice President, Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin; UMNO Working Secretary, Datuk Sumali Reduan; Melaka UMNO Chairman, Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh and Sabah UMNO Chairman, Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin.

The Special Meeting of the UMNO Political Bureau including the State Relations Chairman was held at 12 noon at Level 38 of Menara Dato Onn. It will be followed by the UMNO Supreme Working Council (MKT) Meeting at 3pm, on Level 39. UMNO Head of Information, Shahril Hamdan announced his resignation to take responsibility for the defeat of Barisan Nasional (BN) in the 15th General Election (GE15). At the same time, he also called for UMNO President Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi to step down honorably to take responsibility for this defeat.

I agree with the Menteri Besar of Johor (Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi) that is, without diminishing the respect for him as an individual. I am of the view that the number one leader (UMNO President and BN Chairman) needs to set an example by leading the process of taking responsibility for this defeat by stepping down honorably. Let the leadership and other individuals lead the discussion to make the next big decision for this party. In the spirit of ‘collective responsibility’, I also resigned from my position as Head of Information for UMNO Malaysia.

I appreciate the opportunity that has been given and will not forget it. It’s just that this is a much bigger issue,” he said in a statement on Sunday.
