KUALA LUMPUR, November 21 – A total of 26 BN members of Parliament attended a meeting with the party and Pakatan Harapan (PH) at a hotel on Monday. However, two others could not attend due to ill health. It is reported that PH and BN are expected to be finalized today when the leaders of the two coalitions meet at 10 am. So far there has not been any coalition of parties capable of forming a government so as to put Parliament in a hanging situation.
Official results show that PH has the most seats with 82 seats, followed by Perikatan Nasional (PN) with 73 seats. BN, which has been the government since independence before being defeated in the 14th General Election in 2018, only controls 30 seats. BN MPs will send a sworn statement (SD) regarding support for the formation of a new government to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tan Sri Azhar Azizan Harun at 2pm.
BN chairman, Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi however hopes Azhar can extend the period of time. For us to present the SD after the decision based on the negotiations that we will do with any of the concerned parties,” he said at a press conference with BN MPs at a hotel here on Monday.
