KUALA LUMPUR, November 21 – Barisan Nasional (BN) deputy chairman, Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan suggested that Perikatan Nasional (PN) and Pakatan Harapan (PH) join forces to form a government. This is because they got a higher number of votes in the 15th General Election (GE-15). According to him, BN is ready to be the responsible opposition in playing a check and balance role against the new government.
However, he said, if BN’s help is needed during the transition period after GE-15, BN remains ready to contribute to the opening of sincere and open discussions. If you still can’t get the government body, please don’t blame us. This is the result of a democratic process, to return the mandate to the people. “We just respect the decision.” he said in his Facebook post tonight. As of today, the new government has not been able to be formed because no party managed to obtain a simple majority of 112 seats in the 15th General Election (GE-15).
The results in the 220 parliamentary seats show PH won 82 seats followed by PN (73 seats), BN (30 seats) while Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) 22 seats, Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) six seats, Parti Warisan three seats, independent candidate two seats as well as Parti Kesejahteraan Demoratik Malaysia (KDM) and Parti Bangsa Malaysia (PBM) one seat each.
Currently, PH and PN are trying to ‘fish’ for BN’s support to enable one of the political coalitions to obtain a sufficient majority to form a government. At the same time, Mohamad who is also the Deputy President of UMNO said that BN accepted the decision of the people who rejected it. Therefore, according to him, following the decision, BN has no power to establish a government.
