KUALA LUMPUR, December 16 – The agreement to be signed by the political parties that support the Unity Government is scheduled to take place today and will be the focus ahead of the vote of confidence against the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim this Monday. The development is seen as positive in an effort to avoid a new conflict when many parties expect Anwar’s legitimacy as prime minister to go smoothly with the support of two-thirds of members of Parliament through a motion of confidence in the special session.
On Thursday, the Deputy Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof was reported to have said that the agreement involves all political parties that agree with the Unity Government led by Pakatan Harapan (PH) and preliminary discussions on the agreement have also been agreed. Fadillah explained that one of the priorities in the agreement is related to the cost of living.
The agreement signing session is expected to take place at 3pm at the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), Putrajaya which will only be represented by party leaders in the Unity Government. Of course, the essence of the agreement will be the focus of the media and political observers of the country since the manifesto of each party in the general election (GE) needs to be coordinated under the Unity Government.
