KUALA LUMPUR, December 19 – The First Meeting of the First Term of the 15th Parliament in the afternoon session was chaotic for a moment when there was a clash of tongues between members of Parliament from the government and opposition blocs. The commotion started after Datuk Seri Dr Shahidan Kassim (PN-Arau) questioned the content of the vote of confidence motion against the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim which was presented by the Deputy Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof.
When standing up to intervene, Shahidan said that royal institutions, especially the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and the Council of Rulers, should not be used to influence the Dewan Rakyat session. We cannot use the words Yang di-Pertuan Agong or Malay Rulers to influence the meeting. We don’t need to use it, we bring usul without using this thing. For us (the opposition), if the Yang di-Pertuan Agong is already legal, why do you want to bring it here again, be the Prime Minister he said.
However, Shahidan’s speech was not approved by Hulu Langat Member of Parliament, Mohd Sany Hamzah. When he stood up to intervene, Mohd Sany said that what Anwar did was due to the bravery of the Tambun Member of Parliament. We are brave because today’s Prime Minister is brave unlike the eighth Prime Minister (Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin) before he said.
