KUALA LUMPUR, January 28 – Former Member of Parliament for Rembau, Khairy Jamaluddin Abu Bakar was fired from UMNO immediately. Apart from Khairy, UMNO also suspended the membership of several other leaders, among them the Sembrong Member of Parliament who is also the former Vice President, Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein and the former Information Chief, Shahril Sufian Hamdan for six years. The matter was informed by MKT Member, Datuk Dr Mohd Puad Zarkashi who also attended the UMNO MKT meeting, here on Friday through a post on his Facebook.
In the meantime, UMNO Secretary General Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan confirmed the decision in a statement after the MKT meeting on Friday. According to him, the decision to dismiss and suspend was made due to a violation of party discipline according to the UMNO Constitution due to an offense during the 15th General Election (GE15). In the statement, also receiving the same fate of being suspended are Tebrau Division UMNO Leaders, Datuk Maulizan Bujang and Datuk Seri Mohd Salim Sharif.
“Other than that, five UMNO members from Pasir Gudang Division, nine UMNO members from Putrajaya Division, two UMNO members from Tanjung Karang Division and 26 UMNO members from Pahang were also sacked. Among their mistakes is being an independent candidate, a candidate for a party other than Barisan Nasional and being involved in helping the opposing party during GE15,” he explained.
