A blend of the iconic Gustav Stickley’s proto- modern design with an Asian culture twist. With influences from Japan’s wood design element, along with the traditional Malaysian kampung home stairs railing, led to the birth of the Kayu Collection. By incorporating the kampung home stairs railing, Fuku Studio’s designer Quito was able to add a local design flair into the usual Gustav Stickley design.
Already boasting a wide selection of furniture that has been making waves with its fine craftsmanship and cutting-edge construction, Fuku Studio expands its repertoire with the Kayu Collection, highlighting the best in furniture design. Consisting of modular sofas of different sizes, “L” size combinations, ottomans, as well as armchairs, Quito has created a vast number of arrangements of the sofa for Fuku Studio customers to choose from.
The actual ‘kayu’ part of the Kayu Collection is made with local Semangkok timber, ethically sourced from a sustainably managed forest in Malaysia. The natural terminal bands and broad rays of this wood produce an attractive figure that is unique to each item. Standard 100 by OEKO-TEX which product labels for textiles and accessories that have been tested from harmful substances. Global Recycled Standard which ensures that corporate claims concerning recycled content of textiles are accurate and up to date. ISO 14001 Standard on Environmental Management which establishes the criteria for an environmental management system.
ISO 9001 Certified Company which ensures customers get consistent, good-quality products and services, which in turn brings many business benefits. A core theme of colour combination and material play rings through the the colour of the wood and fabric used for the seats can be modified. According to Vilit Lau, Director of Fuku Studio, “Each piece of furniture designed by Fuku Studio is created with the utmost care, and is according to our client’s specification—and the Kayu Collection is no exception.
As our sofas are made-to-order, the entire process takes between 6 – 8 weeks, as that will allow us to ensure that our products are built to last. Each step of production is closely monitored; the wood and fabric used for each sofa are chosen by either Quito or myself to ensure that it meets Fuku Studio standards, and once production of the sofa is completed, our team will visit the factory for a last quality check before sending it out to our client.”
