KUALA LUMPUR, February 5 – Perikatan Nasional (PN) is ready to give Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali a chance to return as Menteri Besar of Selangor if he wins the State Election (PRN) in a few months. It is understood that the PRN is expected to be held before June this year. The Selangor PN Deputy Director of Election Machinery, Datuk Dr Zulkafperi Hanapi said that opportunities are always open for the former Selangor Menteri Besar to return to lead Selangor.
However, he said, all those possibilities are up to the wisdom of the PN leadership to determine the best candidate for the state’s number one position. “Opportunities are always open to (Mohamed Azmin) and if he succeeds in winning at the DUN (Legislative Assembly) level and helps us win in Selangor, God willing with all the experience he has in developing Selangor, he is capable of that. The question is, is PN capable and has a bright hope of seizing Selangor in the next PRN.
Pas’s victory in six Selangor parliamentary seats in the recent 15th General Election (GE-15) cannot be used as a determining point for them to be accepted by the people of Selangor. It is expected that there will be a fierce competition if Mohamed Azmin is still nominated to contest in the Bukit Antarabangsa State Assembly because the Malay voters there are less than 50 percent. Therefore, there is no doubt that it is a difficult task for Mohamed Azmin to defend the DUN seat that he won during the last GE14.
