KUALA LUMPUR, March 3 – The maximum price of high-speed broadband services dropped to around 50 per cent following the implementation of the new Mandatory Standard on Access Prices (MSAP) which came into effect yesterday. The Minister of Communications and Digital, Fahmi Fadzil said, the maximum price for a total of 14 facilities and services listed in the MSAP, saw a drop in prices compared to before.
With this low wholesale price, it simultaneously enables service providers to offer their packages and plans at lower prices to consumers. This wholesale price will be implemented until 2025. The new wholesale price effective this month is much cheaper than before. For example, MSAP wholesale price for 100Mbps speed is now RM254.64 per month, compared to RM515 per month before.
“Therefore, it can reduce the cost to the recipient of access services involved in providing fixed broadband services to users. Indirectly, services given to retail users can be offered at a lower or competitive price, or at a higher speed,” he said during the Minister’s Question Time in the Dewan Rakyat, today. He answered a question from Khoo Poay Tiong (PH-Kota Melaka) who asked for an explanation about the MSAP that came into force yesterday.
