PUTRAJAYA, March 21 – The Prime Minister urged the Ministry of Finance’s (MOF) Chief Treasury Secretary (KSP) Datuk Johan Mahmood to speed up the tender process for flood mitigation projects nationwide. Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the move was to reduce the pressure faced by flood victims in the coming years. I ask KSP to hurry, he said in his speech at the departure of the post-flood civil servant volunteer team to Johor, here on Tuesday.
According to him, immediate steps have been taken by the government, especially to procure water jets. I believe this can help the people who are depressed and at the same time give great meaning (to them),” he said. Last week, the government announced that it would speed up flood mitigation projects including in Johor by using the ‘fast-track’ method in tender approval despite the introduction of a limited tender system. In the meantime, Anwar thanked the public service volunteers who went down to Johor to help flood victims in the state. This is a good start before Ramadan, which is an act of worship.
I pray that the journey of the program goes smoothly,” he said. The Public Service Volunteer Team (PSPA) lined up a total of 1,520 civil servants from all over the country representing all ministries, departments and agencies with a focus on aid specifically to the affected areas around the Batu Pahat district. Meanwhile, the Public Service Department (JPA) in collaboration with the Malaysian Civil Defense Force (APM) and the National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma) played a role in organizing the mobilization efforts of public service officers and coordinating the distribution of flood-affected areas to the ministry to assist with clean-up and humanitarian work.
