BUKIT MERTAJAM, April 15 – The Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim asked for time for the people to prove good governance in addition to stopping the practice of corruption in the national administration. He said, the government needs to correct many frauds, abuse of power to rob the country’s revenue as well as corrupt practices that plague the country’s administration. Anwar said that corruption does not only involve certain individuals but also involves a system.

Give the government a few years to prove a good and clean administration and governance in addition to eliminating the corrupt practices that have plagued the country all this time. I admit, it’s not easy to do all this. This is because the practice of corruption has long been prevalent in the national administration at all levels, he said when addressing the Prime Minister’s Mandate Council for Federal and Penang State Servants at the Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Penang Branch Great Hall here on Friday.

He said, the success of eliminating the practice of corruption can increase the country’s revenue and then enable the government to redistribute the revenue to the people. Our country is no longer famous for its racial diversity or good economic performance but because of the 1MDB scandal.I opened the file (of the government) in some of the decisions of the past two years and it was full of fraud, the greed of the leaders. I don’t care if he (the leader) is Chinese or Malay or from which party, I told the MACC to act professionally with the right data and facts.

If there is a case, the Attorney General should take prosecution action so that it becomes a lesson,” added Anwar. Meanwhile, Anwar stressed that it is important for the central government and Penang to ensure political stability at once in preparation for the state election (PRN) later. It is important for the central and state governments to work as a team to face the PRN. The people need to understand why the state government that can cooperate with the central government needs to be defended.

“I ask the people to understand our need to defend the Penang State Government and make sure that the state government is strong so that it can help us further strengthen the Unity Government at the central government level,” he said.
