KUALA LUMPUR, April 17 – Three areas involving Cheras, Kuala Lumpur; Seberang Jaya, Penang and Segamat, Johor recorded unhealthy Air Pollution Index (API) readings as of 9am Monday. Based on the Malaysian Air Pollution Index Management System (APIMS) website, Cheras’ IPU rate recorded a reading of 151; Seberang Jaya (145) and Segamat (108).
For the record, IPU readings between 0 to 50 are categorized as good, 51 to 100 (moderate), 101 to 200 (unhealthy), 201 to 300 (very unhealthy) and 300 and above as dangerous. A total of 65 stations recorded moderate readings, with Minden, Penang recording the highest figure of 96, followed by Kota Bharu, Kelantan (94), Langkawi and Alor Setar, Kedah respectively (93). In addition, Kangar, Perlis recorded a reading of 92 while Sungai Petani, Kedah and Tanah Merah Kelantan recorded the same reading of 88.
