KUALA LUMPUR, May 4 – PAS President, Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang and several party leaders have expressed support for the Proclamation of the Malays founded by former Prime Minister, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad. The matter was revealed by the assistant of the former Langkawi Member of Parliament, Abu Bakar Yahya, through a post on his Facebook on Wednesday. According to Abu Bakar, several party leaders and Abdul Hadi held a meeting and have already signed the proclamation.
“Several top PAS leaders led by Abdul Hadi Awang have already signed in support of the proclamation of the Malay nation in front of Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad,” he said in the message. Also appearing to express support were Pas Vice President, Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar and Pas Secretary General, Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan as well as Pas Central Assistant Secretary General, Mohd Syahir Che Sulaiman.
Meanwhile, the Member of Parliament for Marang through sharing a video on the official Facebook Proclamation of the Malays described the support given to the proclamation as a return to the original principles of the Islamic struggle. Here we go back to the original principle of the Islamic struggle itself, if we read the Quran we find that the Messenger started the Islamic struggle even for all mankind. The pillar is on the nation and the race.
“Because the struggle requires the pillars of the new nation to have strength, otherwise, there is no strength. We are not racial fanatics, but that is the basis,” said Abdul Hadi. In addition, he also insisted that the claim that the proclamation was racist was not true. “I don’t think it’s right (racism), when we ruled after independence, we didn’t marginalize other races for decades. “We accept the reality that exists, but must accept the reality that Malaysia is the original race and the majority are Malays, I support it,” he said.
