KUALA LUMPUR, May 13 – IKEA Malaysia has announced that it will be deploying its first electric vehicle (EV) for last-mile deliveries, starting May 2023. The move is part of the company’s commitment to reducing emissions in all stages of its value chain, including last-mile deliveries. The new addition to the fleet will service the Petaling District for IKEA Damansara, and the company plans to expand its EV fleet next year and transition to more sustainable transport solutions.
Malcolm Pruys, Country Retail Director of IKEA Malaysia, said: “Our aim globally is to reduce more greenhouse gas emissions than the IKEA value chain emits, while growing the IKEA business. Decarbonising how we transport products to customers will contribute in meeting our global climate positive commitments.” In addition, IKEA Malaysia plans to offer charging points at every IKEA store by 2025, as part of its ambition to enable as many people as possible to live more sustainably.

The company has also introduced a plant-based menu to inspire healthy and sustainable living, launched an enhanced food waste reduction program, and become the first retailer in the country to end the use of plastic bags. IKEA Malaysia remains committed to making a positive impact on people, society, and the planet. Malcolm added: “At IKEA, we continue to search for more sustainable ways of working. But we can’t reach our goals alone.
Hence, we are excited to be working with like-minded partners in this journey and together contribute to Malaysia’s efforts to transition into a low-carbon, climate resilient economy.”
