KUALA LUMPUR, June 9 – Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, the President of UMNO, has strongly emphasized that Pakatan Harapan (PH) has never undermined or questioned the agenda of Islam, Malays, Malay Kings, and the Malay language, which are fundamental to the party’s core values. Ahmad Zahid further stated that the party’s stance on these issues is respected by all coalitions within the current Unity Government.
He highlighted that the defense of these elements is enshrined in the UMNO Constitution, and other parties in the coalition are in agreement. We receive respect for our party’s stance because it is clearly stated in the UMNO Constitution that these four elements must be safeguarded, and all parties within the coalition support this. I see no reason for us to compromise our principles and integrity, he stated during a press conference following the Inauguration Ceremony of the National 3K Love Squad at the Kuala Lumpur World Trade Center (WTCKL).
The ceremony serves as a side event in conjunction with the 2023 UMNO General Assembly (PAU), which commenced on Wednesday and will run until Saturday. Expressing his disappointment, Ahmad Zahid, who is also the Chairman of Barisan Nasional (BN), criticized opposition leaders who continue to question the collaboration between BN and PH in forming the Unity Government. Why is it acceptable for Pas to collaborate with others while questioning our commitment to upholding Islam and protecting the Malay community?
They should reflect upon themselves, as Pas has engaged in political alliances multiple times, including with DAP, he emphasized. Ahmad Zahid’s remarks come as UMNO prepares for its annual assembly, which serves as a platform for discussing key issues, setting policies, and outlining the party’s direction for the future. The party remains firm in its commitment to upholding the interests of Islam, Malays, Malay Kings, and the Malay language, and seeks to strengthen its position within the Unity Government.
