KUALA LUMPUR, June 17 – PETRONAS Dagangan Berhad (PDB), a leading Malaysian petroleum and gas company, has announced robust financial results for the first quarter ended March 31, 2023 (Q1FY2023). The company’s pre-tax profit surged from RM178.7 million to RM408.9 million compared to the corresponding quarter, driven by a significant increase in demand during the festive season and school holidays, along with the reopening of international borders. Azrul Osman Rani, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of PDB, attributed the company’s strong performance to its continuous efforts in improving cost and operational efficiencies while meeting the evolving needs of customers.
He stated, “As a progressive company, we will continue to harness every opportunity to meet our customers’ demands, making their everyday lives simpler and better. As part of its commitment to customer satisfaction, PDB expanded its food and beverage venture, Café Mesra, with the successful launch of seven new outlets. During the quarter, Café Mesra achieved two significant milestones, including the introduction of its standalone dining menu at The Gardens North Tower, Mid Valley, and the opening of its first outlet in the Eastern region at PETRONAS Chemical Ethylene Polyethylene Sdn Bhd in Kerteh.
PDB also actively engaged with sports enthusiasts during the PETRONAS Malaysia Open 2023 (PMO 2023) held in January. The company organized an activation campaign, featuring Café Mesra serving refreshments and Malaysians’ favorite delicacies, while PETRONAS Shop offered a wide range of high-quality active lifestyle apparel and merchandise. This initiative aimed to promote brand awareness and foster deeper engagement with sports enthusiasts, aligning with PDB’s commitment to promoting an active lifestyle in Malaysia.
In its pursuit of sustainability, PDB collaborated with partners such as Gentari Sdn Bhd to install solar panels and direct current (DC) fast chargers at PETRONAS stations. By the end of March 2023, 23 PETRONAS stations were equipped with solar panels, bringing the total count of solar-equipped stations to 37. Additionally, three new DC fast chargers were installed within the Klang Valley, raising the total count of DC charger units to 24. These charging facilities are strategically located at PETRONAS stations in the Klang Valley and major highways across Peninsular Malaysia.
Azrul emphasized PDB’s commitment to enhancing offerings while prioritizing the triple bottom line. The company aims to deliver value to stakeholders while fulfilling its responsibility to social and environmental issues. He stated, “Our continued focus on these areas will ensure our long-term success and make a positive impact on the communities in which we operate. To reward shareholders, PDB declared an interim dividend of 15 sen per ordinary share for the quarter ended March 31, 2023, further reflecting the company’s strong financial performance and commitment to delivering value to its stakeholders.
With the encouraging Q1FY2023 results, PDB is well-positioned to continue its growth trajectory and maintain its position as a leading player in the petroleum and gas industry, driving innovation and sustainable practices for the benefit of its customers and the wider community.
