BUTTERWORTH, June 22 – The Penang Chief Minister of Penang, Chow Kon Yeow, has announced plans to meet with the Yang di-Pertua Negeri, Tun Ahmad Fuzi Abdul Razak, on June 27 to seek approval for the dissolution of the Penang State Legislative Assembly (DUN). If the meeting goes as planned, the State Assembly is scheduled to be dissolved on June 28, paving the way for the upcoming State Election (PRN).
“We are planning to inform His Excellency (Tun Ahmad Fuzi) on June 27 that the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) will be dissolved on June 28 to make way for the PRN,” Chow Kon Yeow stated during a press briefing after the groundbreaking ceremony for the Village Community Management Council Hall (MPKK) in Taman Senagin. The Penang State Legislative Assembly comprises 40 seats. In the 14th General Election (GE14), the Pakatan Harapan (PH) coalition secured victory in 37 seats, with two seats won by Bersatu candidates who were aligned with PH at the time.
The Barisan Nasional (BN) and PAS won two and one seat respectively. It is noteworthy that in the upcoming 15th General Election (GE15), several states, including Kedah, Penang, Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, Kelantan, and Terengganu, have chosen not to dissolve their respective state assemblies. The decision to dissolve the Penang State Legislative Assembly sets the stage for an exciting electoral contest in the state.
