GEORGE TOWN, June 27 – The Chief Minister of Penang, Chow Kon Yeow, arrived at the official residence of the Yang di-Pertua of Penang, Tun Ahmad Fuzi Abdul Razak, Seri Mutiara, on Tuesday morning to seek approval for the dissolution of the Penang State Legislative Assembly (DUN). This move sets the stage for upcoming state elections. Accompanied by Penang Government Secretary Datuk Mohd Sayuthi Bakar, Kon Yeow met with Ahmad Fuzi to obtain consent for the dissolution.
Following the meeting, the Chief Minister announced that the Penang State Government had successfully obtained approval to sign a proclamation dissolving the state assembly. The dissolution will allow the state elections (PRN) to be scheduled by the Election Commission after all states have dissolved their respective assemblies. Expressing relief, Kon Yeow stated, “I feel relieved after this matter is over for us to prepare for the PRN.”
The dissolution of the Penang State Assembly will officially take effect on June 28, 2023. To provide further details and address questions, Kon Yeow is scheduled to hold a press conference at 2.30 pm at the Chief Minister’s Office in Komtar. Earlier, Kon Yeow had already announced the intention to dissolve the DUN on June 28 in order to facilitate the state election (PRN). Penang is one of the six states that will be holding PRN, alongside Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, Kedah, Kelantan, and Terengganu.
