KUALA LUMPUR, June 28 – The National Tech Association of Malaysia (PIKOM) has unveiled the PIKOM Industry Internship Program, a pioneering initiative aimed at bridging the skills gap prevalent in the digital industry. Commencing from June 2023 in collaboration with Nottingham University, HELP University, and Sunway University, the program will offer participants the opportunity to gain hands-on experience through paid internships at leading PIKOM member companies.
Highlighting the rapid growth of Malaysia’s ICT industry and the rising demand for skilled tech professionals, Ong Chin Seong, Chairman of PIKOM, stated, “The PIKOM Industry Internship Program is a well-structured initiative designed to address the skills gap by providing students with practical exposure to the industry.” The program will span twelve weeks, during which participants will be paired with mentors who will guide them in honing their skills and expanding their knowledge.
Additionally, participants will have the chance to network with established tech professionals, fostering valuable connections within the industry. Ong expressed confidence that the PIKOM Industry Internship Program will offer students a valuable experience and equip them with the necessary skills to thrive in the dynamic tech sector. In addition to the internship program, PIKOM has plans to introduce an apprenticeship program catering to graduates, in partnership with LGMS Berhad for Cybersecurity and HT Consulting (Asia) Sdn. Bhd. for software development.
Expanding the program’s reach will be made possible through the support of A.P. EMCO Executives Sdn. Bhd. and Talent in Motion Sdn. Bhd. (kabel.my). With these comprehensive initiatives, PIKOM aims to nurture a skilled tech workforce, strengthen the industry’s talent pool, and contribute to the continued growth and success of Malaysia’s digital landscape.
