GEORGE TOWN, July 1 – The Penang State Government, under the leadership of YAB Chow Kon Yeow, Chief Minister of Penang, has officially announced the opening of applications for the Penang Future Foundation (PFF) Scholarship 2023. Now in its ninth year, the PFF Scholarship aims to support outstanding Malaysian youths in pursuing tertiary education in public or private universities within Malaysia. Since its inception in 2015, the PFF has played a crucial role in aiding deserving students by awarding approximately 700 scholarships, with a projected value of RM38.81 million.
Recognizing the importance of education and the need to retain local talents, the Penang State Government has partnered with the private sector and donors to provide opportunities for students from diverse backgrounds. In 2022 alone, 45 students were awarded scholarships in fields such as Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, Accountancy, and Finance. The PFF Scholarship serves as a mechanism for the Penang State Government to attract, develop, and retain human talent, further bolstering Penang’s competitive edge in various industries.
With the state’s recent celebration of 50 years of industrialization and its commitment to long-term industrial excellence, the government aims to ramp up the talent supply to meet the needs of the industry. Skilled talents are essential in attracting both foreign and domestic investments, and Penang has proven itself as a key player in this regard, recording RM110 billion of foreign direct investments (FDIs) from 2019 to 2022, with the Electrical & Electronics (E&E) sector contributing RM92 billion, accounting for 44% of Malaysia’s RM209 billion FDIs in E&E during that period.
Prospective students have the opportunity to apply for two categories of scholarships: ‘PFF Penang Scholar’ and ‘PFF Mutiara Scholar.’ Each category has specific eligibility criteria based on factors such as financial background and academic performance. The ‘PFF Penang Scholar’ is open to candidates with a CGPA of 3.67 and above, while the ‘PFF Mutiara Scholar’ is available for applicants with a CGPA between 3.00 and 3.66. Successful applicants will receive benefits corresponding to the scholarship awarded to them.
The application window for the PFF Scholarship 2023 will open from 1 August 2023 to 25 August 2023. Interested students are encouraged to stay updated on periodic announcements through PFF’s website (www.penangfuturefoundation.my), Buletin Mutiara’s distributed copies, and social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter. The Penang State Government reaffirms its commitment to nurturing local talent and creating opportunities for students to excel in their chosen fields of study.
