GEORGE TOWN, July 3 – In a press statement today, Lim Guan Eng, DAP National Chairman and MP for Bagan, urged Penangites to use the upcoming state polls in Penang as an opportunity to expose Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor as a subversive element seeking to undermine the Federal Constitution and posing a threat to the peace, harmony, and unity of Malaysians. Referring to recent comments made by Sanusi, Lim stated, “Penangites should expose Sanusi as a clear and present danger to our constitutional values and the unity of Malaysians.

Instead of engaging in a meaningful discussion, Sanusi has resorted to personal attacks against me.” Lim emphasized that he would not stoop to the same level as Sanusi, choosing instead to focus on facts and reason. He criticized Sanusi’s use of war-like imagery and “violent or threatening” metaphors in his pursuit to return Penang to Kedah, stating that such rhetoric risked divisiveness and enmity among Malaysians, especially the 1.8 million Penangites.

While acknowledging Penang’s historical connection to Kedah, Lim stressed that both historians and constitutional experts affirm Penang’s status as a sovereign state within Malaysia, validated by the Conference of Rulers and the Federal Constitution. He condemned Sanusi’s inflammatory suggestion to amend the Federal Constitution to extinguish Penang and return it to Kedah as illegal and seditious. Lim further criticized Sanusi for using war and violent imagery to push his agenda, disregarding the feelings and wishes of Penangites.

He accused Sanusi of exploiting the Penang issue as a political tactic to distract Kedahans from his failures of governance, such as ensuring uninterrupted clean tap water supply and providing business and work opportunities for a better life. In light of these concerns, Lim called on Penangites to vote in the upcoming state elections for good governance, a better life, and to defend the sovereignty of Penang. He warned that a vote for Perikatan Nasional (PN) in Penang would result in the extinguishment of Penang and its forced return to Kedah against the wishes of its residents.

While awaiting the outcome of police investigations into Sanusi’s remarks, Lim urged the 1.8 million Penangites to send a clear message by supporting the unity government and voting against PN to preserve their lifestyle and protect the sovereignty of Penang. In conclusion, Lim emphasized the importance of unity, good governance, and the preservation of Penang’s sovereignty as key factors in the upcoming state elections.
