GEORGE TOWN, July 6 – In a media statement released on July 5, 2023, Chow Kon Yeow, the Caretaker Chief Minister of Penang, addressed the announcement made by the Election Commission (EC) regarding the state election date (PRN). Chow Kon Yeow expressed his view on the duration provided before the candidate nomination date, which he believes is the longest period in the history of State Elections (PRN) in the country.
He stated that this extended period allows all parties involved to complete their preparations before the nomination of candidates takes place. Acknowledging the 14-day campaign period leading up to the polling day, Chow mentioned that although the duration is similar to previous elections, it provides sufficient time for various related activities to be carried out prior to the nomination date.
During this period, all matters concerning nominations and other related issues will be addressed and resolved effectively, ensuring a smooth electoral process. The Caretaker Chief Minister concluded his statement by expressing gratitude for the allotted time and the opportunity it presents to complete necessary preparations for the upcoming state election.
