We Are Ready 2023 programme in collaboration with Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS). The event, held at the UMS Labuan International Campus (UMSLIC), aimed to equip local students with the skills necessary for future-proof employability.
Over 400 students enthusiastically participated in the engaging three-day programme, which featured a diverse range of activities designed to enhance their graduate employability. At the closing ceremony, YB Tuan Ts. Mustapha Sakmud, Deputy Minister of Human Resources, commended TalentCorp for their tireless efforts in strengthening Malaysia’s talent ecosystem. He stressed the pivotal role of talent in today’s knowledge economy and applauded TalentCorp’s strategic partnerships and targeted initiatives, which aim to ensure that Malaysia possesses the skilled workforce necessary to compete effectively on the global stage.
The YES! initiative by TalentCorp serves as a proactive school-to-work intervention that aims to enhance the graduate employability of Malaysian students. By equipping them with skills in high demand by employers, the initiative ensures that they are future-ready and future-proof. As a strategic measure to tackle job mismatch within the workforce, the initiative expanded in 2023 to include Technical and Vocational Training Education (TVET) institutions.
Thomas Mathew, the Group Chief Executive Officer of TalentCorp, expressed his confidence in Malaysia’s young talent pool. He emphasized the significance of collaboration between TalentCorp, industry partners, educational institutions, and government agencies. By joining forces, these entities can effectively create a well-aligned workforce that meets the needs of investors and drives the nation’s progress.
Mathew also highlighted TalentCorp’s National Structured Internship Programme (MySIP), which plays a vital role in determining skills needs and providing industry training. Employers can apply for MySIP and take advantage of the double tax deduction incentive it offers. By participating in MySIP, employers can proactively build their talent pipeline while contributing to the development of a skilled workforce.
Through initiatives like the YES! programme and strategic collaborations, TalentCorp remains steadfast in its commitment to cultivating a highly employable and future-ready workforce.
