KUALA LUMPUR, July 13 – The government has issued a final warning to any party that plays on the sentiments of the 3R issue (king, religion, and race) to the extent of violating the law and challenging the constitution. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said that this action goes beyond the interests of any party and involves a matter of national security. “This goes beyond interests because certain individuals feel that their position is too high and powerful, that they cannot be accused or challenged.
“The country cannot be like that. We cannot look at and choose positions, ranks, ancestry, or wealth. “If this is the perspective that is damaging. I feel that this situation is quite serious because for decades we have not seen or witnessed extreme statements being allowed,” he said during a press conference after the Malaysian Unity Government Leadership Consultative Council Meeting at Menara Dato Onn, World Trade Centre on Tuesday.
He made these remarks in response to a question about the actions of certain parties who have made statements touching on the 3R issue. In the meantime, Anwar said that the authorities are monitoring without exception all parties regardless of their position or rank. “As far as I am informed by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), it is without exception, monitoring all. “If the violator is Malay, Chinese, Indian, or holds a high rank, that is not the question.
“If they violate the regulations, challenge the constitution, and sow the seeds of division, the consensus is not only within the government and party, but I have also discussed with the Malay Rulers, urging the country to be saved from groups that are so desperate to maintain power that they are willing to sacrifice the interests of the people, causing chaos and division,” he said.
On Sunday, the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) confirmed that they had received several police reports regarding the statements made by Guan Eng, who is believed to have touched on the 3R issue at the Tokong Batu in Jelutong, Penang, last Friday. The Bagan Member of Parliament is being investigated after claiming that the green wave would destroy temples and deny religious rights in Penang while speaking at the ‘Tian Fu Gong Bai Long Wang Singapore-Malaysia’ event.
In addition, PAS President Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang is also being investigated following statements he made regarding DAP’s alleged intention to maintain the interpretation of Islam in the Federal Constitution based on the colonizers’ interpretation that upholds the liberalism and freedom practiced by Western countries. The statement is believed to have been made through a post on Abdul Hadi Awang’s Facebook page on July 8.
