KUALA LUMPUR, July 16 – Ovotherm, the world’s leading supplier of egg industry products, has achieved a significant milestone with the inauguration of its first manufacturing site in the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region. Located in Klang, Malaysia, the new factory represents Ovotherm Asia Pacific Sdn. Bhd.’s commitment to meeting the rising demand for their products in the region while maintaining the highest production standards. This expansion marks a significant step forward in advancing sustainable packaging.
Showcasing the company’s dedication to addressing the increasing need for reusable egg packaging solutions in the APAC market. As a global presence in the egg industry, Ovotherm prioritizes sustainability throughout its supply chain. The company achieves this by utilizing 100% recycled materials, specifically PET flakes, to produce high-quality and eco-friendly egg packaging. Extensive peer-reviewed Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) investigations have confirmed that egg packs made entirely from recycled PET (rPET) exhibit the most favorable carbon footprint and resource efficiency among comparable options available in the market.
The success of rPET egg packs is attributed to two critical factors: the utilization of 100% recycled materials and the minimal energy requirement during processing, which eliminates the need for water evaporation, as seen in pulp egg packs. The newly established factory in Klang spans approximately 106,000 square feet and is equipped with advanced machinery for manufacturing high-quality egg packaging from recycled PET flakes. With an investment of around MYR38 million, Ovotherm further solidifies its commitment to sustainability by using 100% recycled materials in the manufacturing process.
The factory is expected to create job opportunities for more than two dozen Malaysian employees, who will contribute to the company’s operations. Datuk Wira Arham Abdul Rahman, CEO of the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA), expressed his support and excitement, stating, “I am glad to hear that Ovotherm will be integrating sustainable practices into their business model. Their commitment to environmental responsibility and the circular economy is commendable. This initiative sets a positive example for the industry, and I hope it inspires other businesses to follow suit in adopting sustainable practices.”
MIDA works closely with industry stakeholders to foster a shift in perspectives, creating opportunities that pave the way for Malaysia’s transition to a circular economy while supporting ethical businesses and their efforts to drive sustainable growth in Malaysia.
