KUALA LUMPUR, July 18 – The Chief Minister of Kedah, Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor, was reportedly arrested at an early hour on Tuesday at a hotel in Mont Kiara, near here. He was apprehended by a team of police officers from the Selangor Crime Investigation Department (JSJ) at approximately 3 a.m. while in a room on the 33rd floor of the said hotel. Muhammad Sanusi was then escorted into a police four-wheeled vehicle, accompanied by other vehicles from the Selangor JSJ Contingent, en route to the Gombak District Police Headquarters (IPD).
A video of the arrest, lasting two minutes and 50 seconds, has since gone viral on social media. Muhammad Sanusi is expected to be brought before the Selayang Sessions Court on Tuesday morning to face charges under Section 4(1)(A) of the Sedition Act. Earlier reports by the media stated that during a series of speeches organized by the Perikatan Nasional (PN), Muhammad Sanusi allegedly made statements deemed disrespectful to the Sultan of Selangor.
In the circulated video, Muhammad Sanusi is also accused of belittling the appointment of the Chief Minister, Datuk Amirudin Shari. Prior to this, the Inspector-General of Police, Tan Sri Razarudin Husain, stated that the police had received 31 reports nationwide regarding Muhammad Sanusi’s statements, which were claimed to have undermined the credibility of the Selangor Sultanate institution.
