GEORGE TOWN, July 19 – Intel Malaysia has officially launched the Intel® Geek Kids program in partnership with the Penang Science Cluster (PSC) with a nationwide roadshow that includes a series of workshops. The program aims to cultivate an interest in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) among underserved primary school students in Malaysia. Following a successful pilot program conducted virtually in 2022, which engaged over 800 students from more than 130 schools across the country, the Intel® Geek Kids program is now embarking on its first formal iteration.

The program will feature eight in-person workshops conducted nationwide over a two-month period, reaching more than 700 primary school students aged 9 to 12 years old. AK Chong, Managing Director of Intel Malaysia and Vice President of Manufacturing, Supply Chain, and Operations, expressed the significance of bringing this program to underserved communities where access to STEM programs is limited. He emphasized the importance of technology-based skills in various fields and the belief that everyone should have equal opportunities to acquire such knowledge.

Through the Intel® Geek Kids program, Intel Malaysia aims to inspire young minds to explore a wider range of possibilities for their future. The workshops offered in the program will provide an exciting blend of topics, including problem-solving and technical skills. Participants will also have the opportunity to showcase their innovation projects with guidance from mentors, leading up to an innovation competition scheduled for October 2023.

Dato’ Ooi Peng Ee, CEO of Penang Science Cluster, expressed pride in collaborating with Intel Malaysia for the Intel® Geek Kids program, recognizing it as a remarkable initiative. As an organization committed to advancing STEM education and nurturing a love for innovation in young students, PSC is thrilled to motivate and empower children through this program. The aim is to ignite curiosity and pave the way for their involvement in the captivating realms of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics.

Together with Intel Malaysia, PSC looks forward to unlocking the potential of these young minds and creating a bright future filled with endless opportunities. The launch of the Intel® Geek Kids program signifies Intel Malaysia’s commitment to fostering STEM education and nurturing young talent. By providing underserved primary school students with access to these educational opportunities, Intel aims to create a more inclusive and diverse workforce in the field of technology.

Through initiatives like this, the program aims to inspire the next generation of innovators and problem solvers who will contribute to Malaysia’s technological advancement and development.
