GEORGE TOWN, July 28 – Perikatan Nasional (PN) has agreed to field the President of Parti Gerakan, Datuk Dr Dominic Lau Hoe Chai, as the PN candidate for the Bayan Lepas State Assembly seat in Penang. The confirmation came through a statement issued by the Secretary-General of PN, Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin, on Thursday. Earlier, there were reports of conflict over the candidate nomination when Pas Dun Bayan Lepas expressed dissatisfaction with Dominic’s intention to contest for the seat.
They took a firm stand to boycott the candidate nomination process if Dominic persisted in running for the particular seat. There are three State Assembly seats under the Balik Pulau parliamentary constituency, namely Bayan Lepas, Pulau Betong, and Teluk Bahang. Recently, media reports also highlighted that the Pas Youth Council in Tasek Gelugor urged Dominic to withdraw and not harbor ambitions of contesting for the majority Malay seat in the upcoming Tasek Gelugor State Assembly election.
