BAYAN LEPAS, July 29 – The atmosphere at the candidate nomination center for the Bayan Lepas State Legislative Assembly (DUN) at Dewan Bukit Belah, Teluk Kumbar, remained calm without any unwanted incidents taking place. The Bayan Lepas DUN seat witnessed a one-on-one contest between Azrul Mahathir Aziz from Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) and Datuk Dr. Dominic Lau Hoe Chai from Parti Gerakan. Surprisingly, there were no PAS supporters accompanying Dominic, despite rumors of disagreements between PAS and Gerakan for the Bayan Lepas DUN seat.
Around 100 supporters accompanied Dominic when he arrived at 8:30 a.m., chanting “Perikatan Nasional,” “Jom Kalih,” and “Hidup Dominic.” Meanwhile, Azrul was accompanied by approximately 300 supporters, who chanted “Malaysia Madani” and “Malaysia Boleh.” At 9:03 a.m., Dominic submitted his nomination form accompanied by his proposer, Deputy Chief of Bersatu Teluk Kumbar Branch, Ramli Hussain, and supporter, Secretary of PAS Pasir Belanda Branch, Madzin Che Din.
Shortly after, at 9:07 a.m., Azrul submitted his nomination form with his proposer, Treasurer of Amanah Balik Pulau, Safar Said, and supporter, Deputy Chief of Amanah Balik Pulau, Jamaludin Said. Both candidates’ forms were received by the Election Commission Officer for Constituency N38, Mohd Hafiz Aswad Nadzri. At 10:18 a.m., Mohd Hafiz confirmed the participation of all candidates in the nomination process at the grounds of Dewan Bukit Belah, Teluk Kumbar.
