SHAH ALAM, July 31 – Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, the Prime Minister, has clarified that the Deputy Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s announcement of special allocations to three social organizations in Terengganu is not related to the upcoming state election (PRN) scheduled for August 12, 2023. Anwar stated that the announcement was made before the nomination of candidates, and it should not hinder the government’s work.
“Some suggested not to make any announcements about the allocations, but it is not feasible because I am the Prime Minister, and I have to take care of the country and everything. If it’s essential, we will announce it. “But I have already instructed that state machinery, especially those involving PRN, cannot be utilized starting from yesterday. This is the decision of the cabinet,” he said during a press conference on Sunday. The clarification was made after Anwar officiated the National Consumer Day (HPK) 2023 event here.
Anwar emphasized that the program had been planned three months ago, and the announcement was made during the consumer day event due to prior requests from the respective ministries. Last Friday, Ahmad Zahid, during his speech at the Sentuhan Kasih Desa program in Terengganu, announced an additional allocation of RM100,000 to the Persatuan Belia Gabungan Lembaga Kemajuan Terengganu Tengah (Ketengah). Additionally, he also announced allocations of RM250,000 to the Majlis Belia Terengganu and RM200,000 to a motorcycling association in the state.
