GEORGETOWN, August 6 – Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is confident that he will become the Prime Minister for the next five years to govern the country while eradicating the culture of corruption among the nation’s leaders. Anwar stated that he has received support from colleagues in the coalition parties of the Unity Government to become the Prime Minister for the past eight months. I want to announce here that my friends have given their support for me to be Prime Minister for eight months, not eight years, God willing for five years (ahead).
“During these eight months, we will do our best. First, good governance, we cannot tolerate it any longer. Put an end to corruption in this country, we must do that. Now, when we take action against corruption, they say we have a grudge. I will not compromise, remember Tun, you think we will just let it be? No. You hit, insult, curse, tarnish my dignity, I can forgive, but I cannot forgive if you steal the people’s money,” he said during his speech at the Unity Madani Tour in Penang, held at Persiaran Karpal Singh on Saturday.
Previously, the Chairman of Perikatan Nasional (PN), Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin claimed that the Unity Government, led by Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Barisan Nasional (BN), will not last long and has been seen as being chaotic. He, who is also the President of Bersatu, said that UMNO, led by Datuk Seri Dr. Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, is seen as a liability to the government led by Anwar.
In the same event, Anwar, who is also the Chairman of Pakatan Harapan (PH), said that the upcoming state elections (PRN) will bring surprises because the people will rise and make a decision to save Malaysia as a peaceful nation. He stated that Malaysia needs a stable government that rejects parties that incite racial division through politics. When in power, they steal money, take projects, take land, when out of power, they want to save the Malays. This is deceptive politics. These people were once Prime Minister, ministers, they have had power for a long time. When they lose power, they champion the Malays.
The Malays are not fools now, this time the Malays will make a decision to save the country. For the Malays, Chinese, Indians, and others. We must thank Chow Kon Yeow for his leadership in continuing the excellent work that was done before. Penang is a critical state, it serves as a model for good governance, managing the economy well, and ensuring that every race has a place in this state, he said. Anwar further expressed his belief that Pakatan Harapan in Penang, led by Kon Yeow, will receive a mandate and full support from Malay voters in the upcoming PRN.
I also believe that the awakening and awareness of the Malays to join the PH struggle will begin in Penang. The awareness of the Malays began in Penang, and the people’s uprising with Pakatan Rakyat’s victory at that time (2008) also started in Penang. So let us maintain our strength, our foundation, and our leadership in terms of the people’s awareness to bring about change in this country,” he said. Anwar reiterated that he is very optimistic about Penang’s future and will give attention to Penang throughout his tenure as Prime Minister.
“This PRN is the beginning for the nation to lay the foundation for a new era, and voters, regardless of race, must send a clear message rejecting racially-based politics.
“I don’t just want to win (the PRN), I want to win with confidence, and the majority of the people rejecting racial politics, and every vote, including the Chinese vote, is critical.
“I remind the Chinese voters that without the support of Barisan Nasional, PH will not be able to form the Federal Government,” he added.
